I have conducted research focused on themes of adolescent access to high quality health care, adolescent patient-physician communication, and privacy concerns and disclosure. My most recent interest has been in understanding strategies to influence adolescent-physician-parent communication to improve adolescent health. My current work focuses on creating a platform for developmentally-appropriate clinician-patient-parent partnerships that effectively improve measurable adolescent health outcomes. David T. Teachey, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Divisions of Hematology and Oncology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a physician-scientist with clinical and research expertise focused on developing novel therapies for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and rare autoimmune diseases, including autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS). Dr. Teachey studies new therapies in preclinical models in his research laboratory and then translates these therapies into clinical trials. Dr. Teachey is the Vice Chair for ALL Biology for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and is currently the study chair for an international phase 3 clinical trial for children with T-cell ALL. Dr. Teachey is also a specialist in hematopoietic stem cell transplant and in the use of cellular and immunotherapies for the treatment of ALL.

Gerard Martin, M.D., F.A.A.P., F.A.C.C., F.A.H.A., is a Cardiologist and the Medical Director of Global Services. He has been in practice at Children’s National Health System since 1986. Dr. Martin was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics with Tenure at George Washington University School of Medicine in 1995 and served as the Chief of Cardiology from 1997 to 2009 and Senior Vice President for the Center for Heart, Lung and Kidney Disease from 1999 to 2015. He founded the Children’s National Heart Institute in 2004, and was named the C. Richard Beyda Professor of Cardiology in 2007.
Dr. Martin was educated at Syracuse University and the State University of New York, Upstate School of Medicine. After a residency at Brown University and the Rhode Island Hospital, he received his training in pediatric cardiology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco. He has published over 140 peer reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and invited publications and has presented abstracts at over 125 meetings. Dr. Martin is an invited lecturer who has traveled to over 200 meetings, hospitals and universities within the U.S., as well as around the world.
Additionally, Dr. Martin is an advocate for congenital heart disease efforts nationally and internationally. He played integral roles in the development of CCHD Screening and the Sub-Board of Adult Congenital Heart Disease in the U.S. Dr. Martin also has served as a volunteer on medical missions to developing countries, and as a consultant within the U.S., South America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Dr. Martin is board certified in pediatric cardiology, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. White has led effort on patient safety, including initiatives to raise rates of medication reconciliation completion, to increase physician compliance with hand hygiene, to improve communication at night, and to improve discharge efficiency through standardization of discharge criteria. This last project, which significantly decreased length of stay without increasing readmission rates, earned the 2013 Children’s Hospital Association Pediatric Quality Award.

Dr Giangrande qualified in medicine at the University of Manchester after previously earning a First Class Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in pharmacology. After obtaining postgraduate qualifications in both adult and paediatric medicine he trained in haematology at various major hospitals in London. He earned a research doctorate for his work at the Royal Free Hospital in London on immunological aspects of haemophilia treatment. He subsequently worked at the Milan Haemophilia Centre with Professor Mannucci before being appointed to his position in Oxford.

Dr. Safeena Kherani has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (1999) and a Medical Degree (2003) from the University of Alberta, Canada. She completed her Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of Ottawa, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRSCS) in 2008. She then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2009.
Dr. Kherani is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, University of Ottawa and served as the Department Director of the Continuing Professional Development Program and Co-Chair of the School of Medicine’s Mandatory Selectives Rotation for 7 years.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kherani has placed a significant emphasis on patient care, and improving the clinical and medical health experience of her patients. She was recognized in 2016 as one of Ottawa’s top Forty Under 40 for her work in developing a multidisciplinary clinic called ENT MDs focused on excellence in ENT, particularly for children.
In 2016, she and her family moved to Abu Dhabi, UAE where she has been helping to develop the Pediatric Otolaryngology services available in the Emirate, and she is currently centred at SEHA’s Mafraq Hospital. She is also Co-Founder and Associate Program Director for one of the first Otolaryngology Residency programs in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Hossam Al Tatari graduated with an MD from University Medical School of Debrecen, Hungary in 1994. After completing his Arab Board training in United Arab Emirates, he moved to USA where he completed his pediatric residency at Hurley Medical Center of Michigan State University and a Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Children Hospital of Michigan. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Soon after completing his training in US, Dr. Al-Tatari joined the University of Western Ontario, Canada as an adjunct professor until summer of 2009 when he moved to Tawam Hospital in UAE as the chief of pediatric infectious diseases. He became the director of the pediatric residency program between 2010 and 2017 during which he lead the program to become one of the best programs in the middle east and among the first programs to achieve the American ACGME accreditation.
