Dr. Kaplan is a Consultant Pediatric Endocrinology at Tawam Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and the Acting Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. He previously held the positions of Interim Chief Medical Officer, and Acting Chief Quality Officer, Tawam Hospital, and Assistant Professor Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Texas.
Dr. Kaplan received his MD from Damascus, Syria, completed his pediatric residency at Michigan State University, and sub-specialty training in Pediatric Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine Houston, Texas. He is American Board-certified in Pediatric Endocrinology.
Dr. Kaplan has practiced in the US for many years, he is currently involved in full clinical and teaching responsibilities at Tawam Hospital and the School of Medicine, UAE University. His research interests include diabetes and Ramadan, growth disorders, and calcium and bone mineralization disorders. He has published widely in these areas and given oral and poster presentations at many regional and international meetings.
Dr. Kaplan has received several awards for outstanding achievement, such as Certificates of Excellence from Port Arthur Community Health Center, Texas in 2000, National Diabetes Guidelines Appreciation Award by UAE Ministry of Health in 2009, listed among America’s Top Pediatricians in 2010, and award for invaluable services in the field of diabetes and endocrinology from The Gulf Medical University in 2014.
